HipZOMJoint Movie of the Week 4/12/19: The Silence

A Quiet Place. Bird Box. And now “The Silence.”

Somehow, some time, this new silent or be killed sub-horror genre has enamored itself within the horror community. The Silence is the next big film to do so.

The Netflix film stars Kiernan Shipka and Stanley Tucci. It is directed by John R. Leonetti based on a screenplay by Carey Van Dyke and Shane Van Dyke that adapts the 2015 horror novel of the same name by Tim Lebbon. The film depicts a world under attack by creatures who hunt by sound. Shipka plays a late-deafened teenager who seeks shelter with her family, and a cult seeks to take advantage of her deafness.

So it’s Bird Box, but you can see. Wait so it’s like A Quiet Place because the film shows the creatures. But it’s like Bird Box because it has crazy cult people running around who are just as much a threat as the monsters.

The Silence is currently streaming on Netflix.
