We have an all-new Candyman ladies and gentleman. And you just recently saw him in the biggest movie of the summer!
Jordan Peele and Nia DaCosta‘s upcoming Candyman film has finally found its titular character. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, last seen as Black Manta in Warner Bros.’ Aquaman, will assume the lead role in what’s said to be a “spiritual sequel” to the original. Former Candyman star Tony Todd is unsure if he’ll be featured in the film.
The new film will take a page from this past year’s “Halloween” and will place the film in its original setting. In the now gentrified section of Chicago, once home to the Cabrini-Green projects, the Candyman will resurface.
Peele has become the new go-to horror guy in Hollywood. Along with this film the talented young director has “Us,” “The Twilight Zone reboot series,” and “Lovecraft Country” all in the pipeline.
