Jared Leto Joker Films Canceled; Harley Quinn Out Of Suicide Squad Sequel?!?

The landscape continues to be reshaped over at DC Films. It looks like another casualty of the Zack Snyder Era is Jared Leto. What was once thought to be part of the planned Harley Quinn Trilogy (that was rumored to be comprised of Birds of Prey, Gotham Sirens, and Joker vs. Harley) the Joker addition has apparently been dropped. Not to mention the rumored Leto Joker solo film has also been dropped.

Leto’s performance as Joker in Suicide Squad was polarizing. However, it definitely had its fans. That said, WB seems to be putting the Joaquin Phoenix Joker film as a higher priority, especially with the set photos and teaser generating such buzz. If the movie does well, the new Joker might just be integrated into the DC Films shared universe as opposed to just being a one-off film.

As for Margot Robbie‘s Harley, she won’t be in a team-up movie with The Joker but she will be quite busy regardless. The actress will be front and center in Birds of Prey, and will also play an important role in Gotham City Sirens, which should end up pairing her with Catwoman and Poison Ivy, who would make their DC movie universe debuts. Recent reports have said that this is sort of a Harley Quinn trilogy, with the final act now being a Birds of Prey vs Gotham City Sirens movie and having the two groups clash.

One party Harley won’t be returning to however is director James Gunn’s soft reboot of The Suicide Squad. In fact, Gunn might just jettison the entire cast of the first film and put together a whole new team of villains for Task Force X. A report by Forbes revealed some new information about Gunn’s take on the group of DC anti-heroes. According to the report the movie will feature a new cast of characters and will avoid any direct tie-in to the first movie. Harley Quinn is not expected to be involved in any capacity as James Gunn’s script is “a new approach and rethinking of the property.”

What do you think of Leto possibly leaving DC Films/ Harley Quinn no longer apart of the Suicide Squad sequel? Let us know in the comments.
