HipZOMJoint Movie Review: Godzilla Planet Eater

This will sadly be more of a rant than a review. I really wanted to love the Godzilla Anime films. The animation is gorgeous. The voice dubbing is pretty good. But the trilogy is an absolute bore. Planet Eater, the final film in the franchise, might be the worst.

Not even the arrival of an interesting redesigned Ghidorah can make Planet Eater remotely interesting. Because sadly, like Godizlla, Ghidorah is given nothing to really do. Part of the problem with the film’s monsters is they are just too damn big. Not even joking I think Godzilla takes maybe 15 steps altogether throughout the entire trilogy. He’s less monster and more like a moving Volcano. Mothra ”kind of” shows up, and does nothing. Again, how can you have a kaiju movie where the monsters do nothing?

Too much time is devoted to human characters arguing about how to save humanity and trying to understand their hatred for Godzilla. I’d go into further detail but honestly, it’s just too boring.

Watching a Godzilla movie shouldn’t be a chore. It should be a fun experience with fun and brutal monster action. This movie was like watching paint dry. No, I take that back, paint dries faster than Godzilla moves in these movies.

With that said HipsterZOMBIEJoint gives Godzilla Planet Eater a dismal 1 out of 10. It’s that bad.
