HipsterZOMBIEJoint Most Anticipated Films & Television Series of 2019

2019 is coming at us hard with everything we could possibly want! Horror! Action! Science Fiction! Superheroes! And so much more! This is HipsterZOMBIEJoint’s list of our most anticipated films and television series of 2019.

DC Universe Expansion

In 2019 the DC Universe streaming service will expand its original content to four new programs. Young Justice, Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing, Harley Quinn, and Stargirl. The service launched in 2018 with the highly acclaimed Titans series and a slew of everything DC related. 2019 will be a banner year for the young streaming service.

John Wick 3

The concluding chapter to the John Wick saga sees the title character on the run. Keanu Reeves returns and is aided by Halle Berry‘s Sofia, a new character to the series. Chapter 3 is rumored to contain the biggest body count of the franchise.

Game of Thrones Final Season

It all comes down to this. Winter has come and the final battle has commenced. The winner takes the Iron Throne. The showrunners are promising some of the most epic and biggest battles ever seen on the small screen. To protect themselves from leaks and piracy, apparently multiple endings were shot for the final episode.

The Joker Solo Film

Taking a cue from the classic Batman storyline “The Killing Joke” director Todd Phillips’s Joker film will tell an origin story for the Clown Prince of Crime. Set outside of the current DC Films continuity, this all new take on the Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix as a failed stand up comic who descends into madness and becomes a psychopathic killer.

Jordan Peele’s Us

Jordan Peele’s “Us” looks to continue his streak as horror’s new golden child. If you didn’t watch the creepy teaser for the film yet (it dropped on Christmas Day) go watch it now. The story revolves around a family who comes across a deranged doppelgänger version of themselves.

The Lion King

Director Jon Favreau dazzled is with his take on The Jungle Book, now he returns to the House of Mouse for The Lion King. A teaser released already showcased the fantastic CGI, but more impressive than that is the film’s cast. Donald Glover, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Seth Rogen, James Earl Jones, and Beyoncé are just a few of the big names attached to this film!

Stranger Things Season 3

The Duffer Brothers are promising a much darker tone for season 3 of Netflix’s Stranger Things. The series jumps to the summer of 1985. With a release date of July 4th, you can expect to see some other-worldly fireworks.

Star Wars Episode 9

The concluding chapter to the Skywalker story, as Director JJ Abrams describes. The Star Wars Franchise is on the rebound after the polarizing Last Jedi and the box office bomb Solo. Abrams has said the untitled Episode 9 will “course correct” a lot of things that didn’t sit well with fans after Last Jedi.

SHAZAM!

DC Films is currently riding high on the mega success of Aquaman. They will try and continue that with director David F. Sandberg’s SHAZAM! Described as a cross between Big and Superman, SHAZAM! looks to be aimed at a younger, more family friendly audience. It also looks to take inspiration from the most recent Geoff Johns reinterpretation of the character (Highly recommend reading John’s SHAZAM!)

Disney+

Described by industry insiders as the Netflix killer, Disney+ will be consumers one-stop spot for all things Disney, Marvel, PIXAR, National Geographic and more. Furthermore, the new streaming service will be launching the first ever Star Wars television series The Mandalorian. Also launching on the service are two confirmed new Marvel series spun out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Loki and Scarlet Witch. No news yet if the canceled Marvel Netflix shows will jump over to Disney+.

HBO’s Watchmen Sequel Series

Don’t call it a remake, because it’s not. It’s a continuation. Game of Thrones showrunner Damon Lindelof promises a groundbreaking new story set in the Watchmen universe. Not too much is known about the project but it is set to debut on HBO.

IT Chapter 2

The highly anticipated second chapter to Stephen King’s IT will see the adult versions of The Losers Club reuniting to face Pennywise, again. James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader, and Andy Bean are just a few of the new actors joining the cast. Bill Skarsgard returns to reprise his role as Pennywise. The second part of the original mini-series was always a let down due to its lack of budget. Hopefully the big screen version can stick the landing.

Brightburn

What if Superman’s origin was a horror story? James Gunn’s Brightburn asks that question. At first glance the trailer looks like a ripoff of the one for Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. Until the super child starts to develop murderous tendencies.

Avengers Endgame

The most anticipated film of 2019, Avengers Endgame. The end of what’s left of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it. Now we all know the Marvel films will continue to go on, but they will most likely do so without Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, and possibly Chris Hemsworth. The original Avengers lineup (the ones who didn’t get dusted at the end of Infinity War) will team up with new heroes to undo what Thanos did, or die trying.

Godzilla King of the Monsters

HipsterZOMBIEJoint’s most anticipated film of 2019 is the giant monster mashup, Godzilla King of the Monsters. Joining the giant radioactive lizard is his old buddies from the Toho Films such as King Ghidorah, Rodan, and Mothra. Director Michael Dougherty promises many Easter eggs for old school kaiju fans and unlike the 2014, lots of Godzilla action.

That’s our picks for 2019’s most anticipated movies and television shows. Agree? Disagree? What’s your most anticipated movie and tv shows of 2019? Let us know in the comments.
