Two very different films are hitting the cineplexes this weekend. One has a creature who fights a bunch of little monsters while the other one stars a creature whose fan base is made up of a bunch of little monsters. Venom and A Star Is Born open up this week and will be battling for your hard earned cash.
Venom is directed by Ruben Fleischer from a screenplay by Scott Rosenberg, Jeff Pinkner, and Kelly Marcel, and stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock / Venom, alongside Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, and Reid Scott. In Venom, journalist Brock is bound to an alien symbiotethat gives him superpowers.
A Star Is Born is a 2018 American musicalromantic drama film produced and directed by Bradley Cooper, in his directorial debut. Cooper wrote the screenplay with Will Fetters and Eric Roth. A remake of the 1937 film of the same name, it stars Cooper, Lady Gaga, Andrew Dice Clay, Dave Chappelle, and Sam Elliott, and follows a hard-drinking musician (Cooper) who discovers and falls in love with a young singer (Gaga). It marks the third American remake of the original 1937 film (which featured Janet Gaynor and Fredric March), which was adapted into a 1954 musical (starring Judy Garland and James Mason) and then remade as a 1976 rock musical with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.
Both films are now playing at a theater near you.
