Rumor: Jon Favreau Assembles His Crew For Star Wars TV Series As Filming Begins

When it was announced director Jon Favreau was going to be the showrunner for the Disney Play streaming service live-action series the audience was in shock and amazement. Then we were pleasantly surprised when it was said the series would take place after Return of the Jedi but before The Force Awakens.

Now rumor has it that Clone Wars and Rebels mastermind, Dave Filoni, is coming on to direct some episodes. Filoni was a disciple of George Lucas and expertly found ways to connect story threads from the Star Wars films to the beloved animated series.

The new series will focus on the Mandalorians after the fall of the Empire, 7 years after Return of the Jedi. Making Star Wars posted some pictures from the set and Favreau can be seen supervising production.  The site did not disclose the location out of respect for the crew.  Check out the images below:

In addition to the locations shown, Making Star Wars has heard that filming will also take place in a coastal area, so expect to see more shores, kind of like Ahch-To in the recent movies.  Reportedly, scenes will be set on familiar planets such as Tatooine and Mandalore (which makes sense if the show will indeed focus on Mandalorians).

Also, according to MakingStarWarsGame of Thrones star Pedro Pascal is being eyed for the central lead in the upcoming sci-fi series. Pascal, who played Oberyn Martell during the fourth season of Thrones, starred in Fox’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle as well as the Netflix series Narcos during its first three seasons. Next year, he’ll join the DC Extended Universe in Wonder Woman 1984 in a currently undisclosed role.

The as-yet untitled Star Wars series is set to debut on the Disney Play streaming service in 2019.
