The Hellboy reboot release date has been pushed back to April 12, 2019, Summit Entertainment announced Wednesday. It previously had been set to open Jan. 11, 2019. The new date means Hellboy will open just one week after fellow superhero movie Shazam! from Warner Bros. and DC. That film opens April 5, 2019.
Hellboy stars Stranger Things actor David Harbour in the title role and has a script from the comic book character’s creator, Mike Mignola, who penned the script along with Andrew Cosby and Christopher Golden. The Descent and Game of Thrones‘ director,Neil Marshall, is directing the project.
The film is aiming for a darker, more mature theme this time around. The previous two Hellboy films by Academy Award Winning director Guillermo Del Toro were PG-13 and very tongue in cheek.
