The Walking Dead Season 9 premiere is only a few short weeks away. Fans of the series are already trying to mentally prepare themselves to say goodbye to the series main protagonist, Rick Grimes, played by Andrew Lincoln.
Many fans had assumed the series would end with a dying Rick handing the reigns over to his son Carl, but that came to an abrupt end last season (in the show, not the book) when Carl, played by Chandler Riggs, was unceremoniously killed off. Now that Rick Grimes will be killed off as well, Norman Reedus who plays Daryl will assume the role as the new main protagonist.
Indeed, it appears that AMC has big, big plans, as AMC Networks CEO Josh Sapan revealed during the Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference (via THR) that the network aims to continue The Walking Dead in some form or another for at least 10 more years:
“The Walking Dead is a universe…and we have a plan to manage over the next decade, plus. That plan is a careful plan to respect the world of the fans of that world,” he argued, as Sapan pointed to Fear of the Walking Dead as an extension of The Walking Dead franchise.
Rumors have been swirling for some time now that a third Walking Dead related series is in the works, however the one we all want, a live-action Clementine series starring the child survivor from the acclaimed Telltale Games The Walking Dead series doesn’t appear to be it.
