Underworld writer and director, Len Wiseman, has joined DC Universe’s Swamp Thing! Wiseman has been tapped to executive produce and direct the first episode of the horror series.
The project hails from The Conjuring and Insidious director, James Wan’s Atomic Monster productions. Despite being on the DC Universe streaming service, Swamp Thing will not take place within the shared universe inhabited by Titans, Doom Patrol, and Stargirl.
Wiseman’s Swamp Thing gig falls under an overall deal the filmmaker has signed with WBTV to develop, produce and direct projects for the studio. It expands the studio’s relationship with Wiseman beyond his work as an executive producer on its drama Lucifer, which is moving from Fox to Netflix.
Written by Mark Verheiden and It co-writer Gary Dauberman, Swamp Thing follows Abby Arcane as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe.
Wan, Verheiden, Dauberman, Michael Clear, and Wiseman are executive producers.
Wiseman’s feature film credits include the Underworld movies, as well as Live Free or Die Hard and the Total Recall remake. Wiseman is most known for the Underworld series that featured Kate Beckinsale as a vampire, clad in a skin-tight leather outfit, fighting werewolves.
No release date has been set at this time for Swamp Thing.
