Doctor Who alum, Matt Smith, has now joined the cast of the untitled Star Wars Episode 9. Director JJ Abrams has been adding new stars to the upcoming film at a rapid rate. Smith joins Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver, as well as series newcomers Keri Russell, Richard E. Grant, Dominic Monaghan, and Naomi Ackie. Billy Dee Williams is set to reprise his role as Lando Calrissian, while Carrie Fisher will return as Leia Organa through archival and unreleased footage.
Variety reports that Smith is joining the cast of Star Wars: Episode 9 in a “key role.” The final installment of the Skywalker saga is currently in the full swing of production in the U.K. Let the fan speculation begin, Smith is a beloved actor in the sci-fi community. He could land on the side of the Resistance or the First Order and fans will be thrilled with either outcome.
Hopefully its more than a glorified cameo. Star Wars Episode 9 is expect to blast into theaters in fall of 2019.
