Music Icon Aretha Franklin passes away at 76

The music world is mourning today the loss of the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin.

A source close to that family divulged Franklin died in her home in Detroit, Michigan on Thursday morning. She was surrounded by family and friends.

Franklin blend of gospel and blue earned her the title of Queen of Soul. Her hits such as “Respect” and “Natural Woman” allowed her to become the first woman ever to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She is apart of the NAACP Hall of Fame and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Her music is timeless and will continue to inspire generations to come.

Aretha Franklin died of advanced pancreatic cancer, her publicist said.

Her cause of death was confirmed by Franklin’s oncologist, Dr. Philip Phillips, her publicist Gwendolyn Quinn said. Phillips works at Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit.
