Sony’s Marvel Universe News Round Up

Sony dumped a ton of news this week regarding adjacent Marvel Cinematic Universe. Here are a few rumors currently spinning their webs around the internet:

Silver & Black splitting up into two films

The Silver Sable/Black Cat female team-up film has apparently been broken up into two different films now. Sony is rumored to be fast-tracking the Black Cat film first.

Per ComingSoon.net:

“We believe Black Cat is enough of her own character with a great backstory and a canon of material to draw from to justify her own film,” said Sanford Panitch, president of Columbia Pictures.

Original director of the Sliver & Black film, Gina Prince-Bythewood is likely to take a producer credit on both the Black Cat and Silver Sable film, but will not stay to be writer or director for either project. However, the studio says they are going to find another woman director to take the plage of Prince-Bythewood.

Venom is getting neutered with a PG-13 rating

If Venom is going to rip off any limbs or eat people apparently it will now be done off-screen. Sony feels if the film is instead a hard PG-13 film, by pushing the rating to its limit, it will allow a better chance for sequels. Not to mention leaving the door open for a crossover with the rest of the Marvel universe. This move will either make or break this film.

Other Sony Marvel Films Announced

Sony has revealed they have the right to over 900 Marvel characters. They plan to move quickly in developing their own cinematic universe. Jared Leto has already signed up for Morbius The Living Vampire. A Kraven The Hunter and a Silk film are actively in development as well. Jackpot and Nightwatch are two other films announced. All mostly obscure Spider-Man related characters Sony hopes to make household names through diversity casting and hiring directors with a vision.
