Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros is fast tracking a big screen adaptation of Supergirl.
Oren Uziel who wrote The Cloverfield Paradox and 22 Jump Street has been hired to pen the script.
Further details are being kept under wraps for now and there are no producers currently attached, so it’ll probably be a while before we see this go into production, but this development does seemingly suggest that it may be more of a priority for the studio, at the moment, than that long-desired Man of Steel sequel.
I find this to be a slap in the face on two fronts.
One: to Henry Cavill who WB has been squirrelly about extending his contract to play Superman. Despite being one of the few things people actually liked about Justice League, WB does not feel like their flagship character is worth a sequel.
Two: we already have a great Supergirl in CW’s Melissa Benoist. So far its CW 1 DC Films 0 when it comes to who has the better interpretation of characters. Grant Gustin plays a smart and likable Barry Allen/The Flash fans love. Justice League’s Ezra Miller was annoying, unlikeable, and just overall very off-putting as a Flash that was a cowardly idiot.
At what point should WB/DC just wise up and realize their TV show characters fans already love should just make the jump to film and avoid unneeded comparisons?
What do you think? Are you excited for a Supergirl film?
