Director Matt Reeves gives update on “The Batman”

Remember when Batman was the crown jewel of WB/DC? It seems like ever since the Batman v Superman introduction of the “Dark Knight Returns” iteration of Batman that then reverted to shades of George Clooney Batman in Justice League, the character has been in a funk.

Which is why director Matt Reeves is taking his time to reintroduce the Caped Crusader….correctly.

“We are working on getting our draft [in] the next couple weeks,” Reeves said. “Right now, my head is totally into the script. Right now, I’m going to be leaving here to go back to work on the script.” And if it goes to plan, they could be in front of cameras by this time next year (though yes, we’ve heart that before.) “What we’ve talked about is hopefully in the spring or early summer, something like that,” Reeves said.

Reeves wouldn’t divulge any casting news but did reveal the film would focus on a younger Batman, concluding Ben Affleck’s three film run as the character.

Reeves explained “There are ways in which all of this connects to DC, to the DC universe as well,” Reeves said. “We’re one piece of many pieces so I don’t want to comment on that except to say that I’m focused very specifically on this aspect of the DC world.”

Reeves said the new film is not an origin film or an adaptation of Year One by Frank Miller. His film is as he describes “A noir-driven Batman story which brings something new and cool to the table.
