The Walking Dead is taking a bit of a time jump next season. Going into the ninth season, the series will have a new showrunner in Angela Kang and possibly a new lead before all is said and done.
As you can see in the image, Michonne is horseback guiding some survivors through the apocalyptic wasteland. The content of this image becomes much more clear when new showrunner Angela Kang breaks down the crumbling world we see the characters in after a time jump from the events of season 8’s finale.
“We’ll explore what happened as man made objects and structures break down. Infrastructure like roads and bridges are changing and crumbling. And we’ll also explore what happens as resources are getting low. There’s a fun Western vibe that has emerged. We are going into a period where a lot of the things that we’ve seen in previous seasons have broken down, so they’ve got these horses and carriages that are being drawn around instead of cars. Things are lit with oil lamps. People are using different kinds of weaponry. There’s a real grittiness to it that I think will be fun and fresh for the viewers.”
After hearing that from the showrunner, the ninth season of AMC’s hit series looks like it is stacking up to be a memorable one. Mostly because this will be the final season for Maggie and Rick. Both Andrew Lincoln and Laura Cohen will be exiting the show this season and Darryl (Norman Reedus) will become the new lead on The Walking Dead.
This is a make or break you for most fans of the series. The idea of breaking away from the book by killing off Rick is risky and to long time Walking Dead fans even insulting. Hopefully Kang is up to the task in breathing some new life into the series.
