HipZOMJoint Movie Review: Oceans 8

Starring an all-star cast of female stars, Oceans 8 is a nice blend of comedy and style for a heist film.

Directed by Gary Ross and written by Ross and Olivia Milch this film is a spin-off from Steven Soderbergh‘s Ocean’s trilogy and features Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, and Awkwafina. The film follows a group of women, led by Debbie Ocean, the estranged sister of Danny Ocean, who plan a highly sophisticated heist of the Met Gala in New York City.

Despite some improbable moments throughout the film (and there are many), the film’s cast makes up for the film’s shortcomings. Each woman brings something different to the team. At no point is one of the members just there to be there. It’s a stylishly fun film that although very predictable is still worth a watch.

Anne Hathaway as Daphne Kluger, an air-headed celebrity and the target of the heist easily steals the movie (no pun intended).

With that said HipZOMJoint gives Oceans 8 a 7 out of 10.
