Maneater is an open world action-RPG, and you’re the shark bent on hunting human and ocean prey alike. Evolve your body to become the ultimate hunter.
The upcoming PC game puts you inside the gills of a bull shark that chomps swimmers, fishermen, scuba divers, and crocs on the Gulf Coast of the US.
And the more you eat the bigger you get, with your finned monster constantly evolving to fit your play style.
The torrent of sequels and reboots showcased at E3 this week could learn a thing or two from Maneater’s no-frills approach to visceral gaming.
But don’t be fooled by the game’s simple concept, because it contains a fleshed-out story about a shark hell-bent on revenge after its mother is slaughtered by humans leaving it left for dead.
The game also promises a fully-realized open world filled with sunken wrecks, humid swamps, and a vast ocean packed with juicy shark fodder.
Whereas other underwater games like Ecco the Dolphin and (more recently) Abzu had more ambient vibes and environmental themes, Blindside is only interested in death and destruction.
There’s still no release date for Maneater but it would fit in nicely amid this shark-infested summer of entertainment.
