Dwayne Johnson’s Rampage might be the best video game movie ever. But that isn’t much to hang your hat on when the bar has been set so low.
The plot is simple, genetic editing gas mutates three animals causing them to become colossal, ravenous beasts.
Dwayne Johnson once again brings the charm and likeability to his role, however, everyone else just seems to be coasting through their lines.
But in a film about giant beasts destroying a city do you really care about the human element? The giant monster action is top notch (better than what we have seen previously this early summer in Pacific Rim Uprising.) George, the giant ape, is more likable than most of the humans in the film.
All in all, Rampage succeeds where other video game movies have failed. They kept it simple and straightforward. With that said HipsterZOMBIEJoint gives Rampage a 6.5 out of 10. Not the worst film you’ll see this summer.
