Ian Somerhalder loves him some vampire shows. The Vampire Diaries star is jumping on to Netflix‘s adaptation of V-Wars. V-Wars is the chronicle of the first Vampire War. From the savage murders committed by the patient zero of the plague to full-out battles with vampire terrorist cells, these are the stories of the most terrifying war mankind has ever faced!
Here is a synopsis of the first book in the series, V-Wars Blood & Fire:
It’s been one year since a virus triggered junk DNA and people all over the world started changing. Becoming something else. Craving blood. It’s been ten months since the word ‘vampire’ stopped being something from old monster stories and Hollywood movies. It’s been six months since our world and theirs erupted into war. Two months since an uneasy peace was signed. And one hour since that peace was shattered. The war is here again. The vampire war. Our world will burn. Our world will bleed! When anyone can turn, when every street is a battlefield, there is nowhere to run!
Written by Jonathan Maberry, the author adapted his own books into a comic book series for IDW Publishing. Somerhalder is coming off of an eight-season run on CW’s Vampire Diaries show, also based on a book series.
V-Wars has received a 10-episode, straight-to-series order from Netflix. Per THR.com, Somerhalder will play Luther Swann (the non-vampire lead character), a doctor whose best friend, Michael Fayne, is lost to the disease and soon rises to become the notorious underground leader of the vampires.
Brad Turner (24) will direct and executive-produce, while 1-800-MISSING creators William Laurin and Glenn Davis will serve as showrunners. Somerhalder, the 39-year-old actor, directed three episodes of The Vampire Diaries during its seventh and eight seasons and could possibly get the chance to direct a few episodes of the upcoming show.
No release date has been set for the series.
