HipZOMJoint Movie Review: Ready Player One

Ready Player One is easily Steven Spielberg’s most enjoyable film in over a decade. Spielberg takes writer’s Ernest Cline book and creates the most visually stunning images moviegoers have ever seen.

Ready Player One combines gaming/geek culture, with pop culture, and a serious love for all things 80’s. A film that has an Iron Giant, Mecha-Godzilla, the Back to the Future car, and the Serenity spaceship all in one scene is not just amazing, its a geek’s dream come true.

The cast is very engaging and enjoyable. Tye Sheridan shines as our hero, Perzival/Wade and brings a wide eyed sense of adventure to the film. Olivia Cooke’s Artemis/Samantha really embodies her character as strong-willed and determined.

The easter eggs in the film are seriously limitless. You won’t be able to see all of them in one viewing. Everything from posters, quotes, weapons, clothing, avatars and more relate to pop culture and video games in some way.

The film does differ from the book in various ways but it’s for the betterment of the overall film. With that being said, HipZOMJoint gives Ready Player One a surprising 9 out of 10, this is one film you will want to see on the biggest screen you can!
