With the complete failure of Justice League still hanging around their neck, WB/DC are looking to rebound with their next set of films: Aquaman, Shazam, and Wonder Woman 2.
However, it’s a new film that enters the spotlight that has the potential to change the entire comic book film landscape.
The New Gods.
Per Heroic Hollywood:
Deadline reports Ava DuVernay (A Wrinkle In Time, Selma) is in talks to helm an adaptation of Jack Kirby’s The New Gods for Warner Bros. and DC Films.
The beings of New Genesis and Apokolips call themselves Gods and live outside of normal time and space in a realm called the Fourth World. These New Gods have evolved due to their close proximity to the Source, a primeval energy, believed to be one of the ultimate foundations of the Universal Expression of Energy, along with their superior technology, into beings of genetic stability and evolutionary perfection. The denizens of New Genesis are stronger, faster, and smarter than homo sapiens, despite their resemblance to the same. It is believed that there is a connection between the Fourth World and the Third World (the recognized human universe) but that connection has yet to be completely explored. Since there are physical similarities, perhaps the races of the Fourth World help populate the planets of the Third World at an earlier time in the history of the Universe.
According to the trade, the studio is looking to quickly attach a screenwriter who will work closely with DuVernay when developing the film’s narrative.
More to come…
